Looking Better in Photos: Some Easy Tips

For me taking photos can be a stressful almost traumatic experience.  I very rarely like myself in photos and yes I’m very hard on my self but that doesn’t change the fact that I am very picky when it comes to photos of me.

To help I have tried to pick up on as many tips and tricks as possible to make sure that I look as good as possible in front of the camera.  Understanding these tips from a photographer’s point of view has helped me a lot from a subject’s point of view.

Knowing that everyone isn’t a model and everyone isn’t supposed to be a model (it’s their job and they have to be good at it) doesn’t mean that everyone can’t look great in photos.  Even if you don’t have supermodel bone structure or a model physique no worries, a few tips and you’ll see the difference.

5 Easy Tips for Looking Better in Photos

1.    Find the Light – Light is key to photography.  Keep it simply and remember to find the light.  Make sure your face is lit but watch out for harsh light and shadows.

2.    Chin Out & Down – No matter your size or shape it helps tighten the skin on your neck, which is always flattering.

3.    Curves –An easy tip to remember is that if it bends, bend it.  Even a slight bend in arms, legs, hands, and hips make your photos more interesting by adding a sense of motion.

4.    Weight to back hip – Moving one leg back and shifting your weight to your back leg allows you to lean forward slightly.  This simple trick will have a slimming effect.

5.     Find Your Angles – Spend time in front of the mirror and you’ll quickly discover the side you like better.  Use this as your go to position for photos that you’ll always like.
